The Mission
The Whole Testament is a podcast putting the “Old” and “New” Testaments back together. This is how we plan to do that.
Hebrews {5:12-14 ESV}
12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, 13 for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. 14 But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.
The writer to the Hebrews is telling them that they are young in their faith because they have not adequately learned the “Oracles of God”. He is basically calling them baby believers, only able to handle milk and unskilled in the “word of righteousness”. What are these “Oracles of God”?
In the book of Romans, Paul is speaking to his audience about the advantages the Jewish believers had over the new gentile converts. He says, {Rom 3:1-2 ESV}
1 Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the value of circumcision? 2 Much in every way. To begin with, the Jews were entrusted with the oracles of God.
What were they given? What is Paul speaking of? The Old Testament. God gave Israel His Law, Prophets, and Writings. The Old Testament books are the “Oracles of God”.
Here at The Whole Testament, we believe that as modern day Christians we have lost some of the significance of the New Testament scriptures because we are those “baby Christians” the writer of the book of Hebrews was addressing. We know very little about the “Oracles of God”. We desire to change that.
Here is how we want it to work. In order to go from milk to solid food, we can’t just start eating steak. In fact most of us don’t even know how to make that transition. We want to help make it easier for you. We plan to do that by offering you Appetizers, Entrees, and Desserts.
Appetizers
Shorter Podcasts that deal with a text in the New Testament that has a significant connection to a text in the Old Testament. These podcasts are meant to wet your appetite. They are there to make you hungry for more.
Entrees
A longer podcast that gets more into the theology of the connections the appetizer made. This is a place where your understanding of the scripture can grow and be challenged. You may not agree with everything that is said in these podcasts, and that is great. If you don’t agree, maybe you will be challenged to search out the truth in your Bible. Either way, you will be growing and starting to learn how to digest real “food”.
Desserts
These podcasts will be interviews and conversations with people who can speak to what was taught in the Entrée episodes. They will often include real life ways the spiritual truths of the Appetizer and Entrees play out, and might include steps for you to begin applying the concepts into your own life.
